Dos and Don’ts of Planning an Unforgettable Vacation
Getting time to finally plan a vacation or a weekend getaway can instantly make you high on dopamine. After all, you deserved this break from your mundane schedule since so long. This happiness, however, can easily translate into feeling overwhelmed if you don’t plan ahead. In other words, the stress-free vacation that you had aspired for may not really be free of stress.
WAIT! Don’t let this tone down your energy.
In the next few minutes, you will know absolutely everything you need to make your vacation a rewarding one. Read on to find what to do and what not to do when you travel. (You may even write it down if you wish!)
What to Do When You Travel
-
Research before you leave
Researching in advance about the vacation spot and clearly laying out the itinerary will prevent any anxiety-provoking situations to occur later on. Know what you really want and set a priority list. Is a hotel room too boring for you? Book a resort or condo instead. You like beaches more than the mountainous terrains? Look for a place closer to the beach. Doing prior research will save you time and money.
-
Pack minimal luggage
Whether it’s a month-long vacation or a getaway for a couple of days, the key to having a comfortable travel trip is to pack as lightly as possible. Only keep the essentials and do not forget First Aid. Packing light will save you from the trouble of moving your luggage along and spraining your back even before the vacations start.
-
Be Flexible
Setting too many expectations ahead of time will eventually result in disappointment. Be open to adventures and know that sometimes those unplanned and sudden moments can turn out to be the most memorable ones.
What NOT to Do When You Travel
-
Panic
Be mindful that it is only natural for the plans to not work out at times. The last thing you can do is to panic. Remember to relax and know that where there is will, there is a way. You missed your flight? It’s alright. Step back, calm down and relax. It is all going to work out.
-
Judge others or their cultures
It is important to embrace diversity and respect differences. Listen to opinions instead of bashing them. Be tolerant instead of abusive. Being in culturally diverse environments and interacting with locals can be a truly fascinating learning experience. You’ll be surprised at the exposure you get when you travel.
-
Forget your official documents
If there is one thing you can’t afford to mishandle, it’s the bag with all your documents. The idle way to keep them safe is to keep them all carefully packed near you. You can even wrap them up in a waterproof bag to make sure that they don’t get damaged.
Bonus tip: Disconnecting temporarily from work and/or social media for a while and paying attention to small details around you on the vacation will leave a magical impact on you. Do try it out!
